A new six-hole golf course is opening on the east coast this spring. In this week’s podcast, host Dave Berner talks to architect Ian Scott-Taylor about the genesis of the course.

“It was a project done by a company called the McKee Group, who are a housing development company,” Scott-Taylor says. “They had bought a property that had a design for a nine-hole golf course. They asked me to go in and have a look at it. When I saw it, I thought, ‘this is a shooting gallery.’ There was no way they were going to get nine holes in there. I persuaded the homeowners and the McKee Group to go for a six-hole golf course instead. They thought I was just about ready for a straight jacket.”

“It includes basically every solid fundamental a beginner would need from tee to green,” she says.

Pelican Hill Golf Club in California is greening, according to Sat Tamaribuchi, vice president of environmental affairs at the Irvine Company, which owns the golf course.

“There are four lines that we use that are geometrical lines that help ensure that players have good alignment through the golf ball,” Evans says.
